Parque de l’Aigüera: the green lung in the heart of Benidorm

Index

We love welcoming you to Paraíso Centro to share in the everyday life of our city. When you’re looking for a refreshing break after a day in the sun, Parque de l’Aigüera becomes a natural stop right in the heart of the city. Built along the course of an old stream bed, this landscaped space channels the breeze and offers a different perspective on the city’s layout, separating the historic quarter from the more modern districts.

From our accommodations, it’s incredibly easy to reach and stroll along its paths. It’s a peaceful alternative to the bustle of the seafront, with benches decorated in tiles, ornamental fountains, and well-kept greenery that invites you to slow down. We want you to know all its details so you can make the most of it during your days off.

History and design of Parque de l’Aigüera in the city center

Designed in the 1980s by architect Ricardo Bofill and his Taller de Arquitectura, this linear boulevard stretches over four hundred meters. The project made use of the natural ravine that once divided the town to create a continuous pedestrian artery with clear classicist inspiration. The columns, tiered steps, and balustrades evoke the aesthetic of classical Greek and Roman sites, giving it a distinct character compared to the surrounding buildings.

Walking its length from south to north connects two very recognizable landmarks on the city map. At the southern end stands the Town Hall building, while the northern end leads to the Plaza de Toros (bullring). Among the various parks in Benidorm, this one stands out for its monumental architectural scale, designed to host both everyday strolls and large cultural gatherings.

Walking along this route helps you understand the city’s urban development. What was once a natural barrier is now a meeting place that connects neighborhoods and shapes pedestrian flow toward the central services.

What to see and do among its amphitheaters and gardens

The park functions as a large open-air civic and cultural center thanks to its two auditoriums, both integrated into the neoclassical design.

The Julio Iglesias and Óscar Esplá auditoriums

The main venue is the Julio Iglesias Auditorium, an amphitheater with capacity for around four thousand people, hosting shows and concerts throughout the summer season. Nearby, you’ll spot a bronze bust dedicated to the singer himself, whose career took off after winning the Benidorm Spanish Song Festival in 1968 with the song «La vida sigue igual».

Further along is the Óscar Esplá Auditorium, a smaller venue designed for around five hundred people, which usually hosts more intimate musical events or neighborhood activities throughout the year.

Recreational spaces and rest areas

Families traveling with kids will find safe playgrounds and a sports court where little ones can enjoy some outdoor fun. If you’re after a slower pace, the park also offers picnic areas and shaded benches, perfect for reading or chatting quietly among palm trees and landscaped areas.

When to go in summer to make the most of the shade

Midday heat on the Costa Blanca can be intense, so choosing the right time of day makes all the difference when it comes to enjoying your walk. During the hottest months, the best choice is to visit in the late afternoon or early evening. At that time, the layout’s orientation and the tree-lined paths cast continuous shade, softening the temperature and creating a pleasant setting for a stroll without the heat.

Walking through Parque de l’Aigüera as the sun begins to set lets you watch the lights gradually come on among the neoclassical balustrades. It’s the time when many local families head out for a walk and children play in the recreational areas. If you’re planning a relaxed summer in Benidorm, saving this walk for sunset before dinner is a habit we highly recommend.

How to continue your walk to the old town and Levante Beach

The great advantage of this boulevard is its direct connection to the main points of interest nearby. Leaving through the southern entrance, next to Plaza de SS.MM. Los Reyes de España and the Town Hall, simply continue south to walk through the pedestrian streets of the old town of Benidorm. It’s a flat route you can easily cover on foot, with no need for transport.

Along the way, on Calle Tomàs Ortuño and about a ten-minute walk from the park, you’ll find the Museo Municipal de la Boca del Calvari and the Museo Hort de Colon, two cultural stops that fit nicely into the walk. Continuing toward the coast, you’ll reach the Balcón del Mediterráneo, the white stone balustrade viewpoint with views over the sea and the city.

From the viewpoint, you can head down to Levante Beach, linking the calm of the gardens with the lively atmosphere of the seafront promenade. If you fancy a bite to eat without straying too far, within five to ten minutes’ walk of the park you’ll find Bar Nacional on Calle Maravall, La Croqueta Benidorm on Avenida de Ruzafa, and Restaurante Esturión on Avenida de Panamá, where they serve paella, meats, and seafood.

How to get there, parking, and practical access information

Getting there is easy if you’re coming by car along the AP-7 motorway, taking exits 65 or 65A, or via the N-332 national road. Both routes connect to Avenida Beniardá or Avenida Alfonso Puchades, leading directly onto Avenida de l’Aigüera. If you’re using public transport, urban bus lines 001, 002, 003, 012, and 030 have stops on nearby streets such as Calle Ruzafa and Calle Alfonso Puchades, and the Alicante Metropolitan TRAM station (lines L1 and L9) is also just a short walk away.

To park your vehicle without any hassle, Parking L’Aigüera operates right beneath the park itself — a paid underground car park with around four hundred and ninety spaces and signposted access from Plaza del Ayuntamiento. If you’d prefer free street parking, you can find spaces in the surrounding area near the Plaza de Toros and the fairground.

  • Opening hours: public open-air park open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
  • Price: free and open access, with occasional capacity regulation inside the auditoriums depending on scheduled events.
  • Accessibility: certified with the TUR4all label, featuring level access on foot from Plaza de SS.MM. Los Reyes de España, adapted restrooms, and designated accessible parking spaces.
